SHDA readies for 34th annual conference

The final touches are being put on what is shaping up to be one of SHDA's best Annual Conferences. Attendance is extremely strong and the content being offered through the Ben Silver Seminar, the Joint Business Session, and the two new Discussion Luncheons will make this year's Conference worth the trip just for the education alone. You can still register last-second delegates and see who's registered too as of April 16, however hotel space is extremely tight so availability in the Embassy Suites Downtown-Lakefront is not guaranteed if you have not already made your reservations. shda-sponsored distribution model curriculum seeks advice

The Power Transmission Distributors Association is working with universities and community colleges in North America to develop and offer degrees and courses in Industrial Distribution. SHDA is one of the official sponsors of this initiative and is being asked to solicit the membership for help in the development of the curriculum so it will apply universally to the needs of distributors in any industry. SHDA distributors are invited to join the Advisory Committee for the Cuyahoga Community College in the Cleveland area this Friday, April 23 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Contact Headquarters for more information.

Yesterday's NAW SmartBrief reported that U.S. manufacturers are complaining they cannot find applicants with the right skill sets to fill open positions in the industry. One of the largest issues is that employers have changed what they are looking for, as the focus in the industry has shifted from labor-centered activity to more technological and analytical work. The 2004 SHDA Annual Profit Report will be unveiled at the 34th Annual Conference when Dr. Bart Basi of the Center for Tax, Legal and Financial Planning presents his analysis of the results during "Solving the Profit Puzzle" at the Joint Business Session.
