SHDA UNVEILS NEW ANNUAL CONFERENCE NAME

January 200SHDA Headquarters - Over the course of the past few weeks, your SHDA Leadership has been hard at work gearing up for this spring's Annual  Membership Conference. The most noticeable change to date is the name itself. Effective immediately, the Annual Membership Conference will be known as the Annual Industry Advancement Summit to reflect and emphasize the significance and value of this event to our members.

The name change reflects SHDA’s renewed and increased focus on helping its members improve their businesses though educational and interactive programs and sessions recognizing that the industry is changing at breakneck speed. Moreover, this year’s Annual Summit between the industry’s most successful wholesale distributors and manufacturers will also display a new format entirely geared towards providing SHDA members with more opportunities to develop not only their businesses but also themselves. Moreover, all educational programs will be provided as part of the 2006 Ben Silver Education Program

This year’s 36th Annual Industry Advancement Summit entitled, Bringing the Supply Chain into Focus, will be held on April 25-28, 2006 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida at the Bonaventure Resort & Spa and will feature numerous industry experts as well as the One-on-One’s Conferences between SHDA’s Distributor and Manufacturer members.

**Registration materials for the upcoming Annual Industry Advancement Summit will be available in early February**

PRESIDENT'S CORNER

Committee and board work are the lifeblood of any association. SHDA is no exception.

At our last annual meeting, I stated that in light of the changes taking place in our industry, SHDA needed to adapt to remain relevant. Toward this end, your board and committees have been working diligently.

In May, 2005, your board voted to create an Executive Committee to help steer the association. One outcome of their work was that the standing committees be streamlined to be more productive. Each chair staffed their committees with a deliberate effort toward bringing "fresh blood" to the group. This, again, to keep up with the aforementioned changes going on around us.

In committee work, numerous teleconferences have taken place. At our annual mid-year meeting, all committees worked to establish measurable goals for themselves.

As a result of all of this work, this year's "Summit" will be one of the most important in some time. Enlightening/Informative programs are planned that will undoubtedly benefit everyone in attendance. Several bylaw changes will also be on the agenda that require membership approval.
More will follow shortly on our Conference. I encourage all of you to plan on being a part of this most important event.

In the meantime, please feel free to contact myself, a board member, committee member or staff member on any matter that you feel is important in keeping SHDA the most meaningful group to which you belong.

See you in Fort Lauderdale!

time management: work smarter, not harder

January 2006 - MSNBC - As companies run leaner operations with fewer workers, they’re asking more from those still employed. While the increased productivity makes companies more profitable, the greater demands on workers can leave many feeling overwhelmed, burned out and losing any work-life balance they may have had. the ever-changing face of distribution sales

January 2006 - Industrial Distribution - Distribution sales has always been a person-to-person process. Until now, that is. While having a good relationship with your customers is still important, the time is coming when you can't count on it being the difference between winning and losing new business. The market is changing and the demands and requirements of your best customers are shifting as well.

What will distributors need to do as a result to adapt to these changes? Read the full article here.
